Today’s Reading: Proverbs 22:1-2

The rich and the poor have this in common: the Lord made them both.

Proverbs 22:2

Meditation: We have all been created by God. The beloved family member, the testy relative, the best friend, the mortal enemy, the extremely wealthy, and the extremely poor have all been made by Him. There are so many differences which make each one of us unique. Sometimes these things make finding common ground with others difficult. But we can all relate to each other in that the same God Who made me made everyone else.

What does this mean as we seek to relate to others in meaningful ways? The dialogue voiced by so many today to be seen and heard shows that we all as humans commit the sin of devaluing others. This issue is a problem which, therefore, cannot be addressed by our own perspective of others. We as a society need common ground on which to begin a foundation of lasting relationship. What a thought that while we are each different, our individual beginnings (and our very beginning) include the same God. Each of us has been fashioned by Him. Each of us is sustained by Him. Each of us is loved by Him.

In all industries, brands or creators ascribe value to their goods because of the quality of workmanship they are known to produce. Apple, Fendi, and Ferrari are known for creating quality products. They therefore make products that are valuable. How much more, then, should we ascribe to other people infinitely more value when remembering they are created by God, who designed and built the wonders of the universe? Our evaluation of people varies, but the true value of each person is stitched into us by God’s own Hand.

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for reminding me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made by You. Thank You for reminding me that You have created all others with the same love and care. Show me the ways that I can love others the way that You do. Through my relationship with You, help me to build lasting and loving relationships with people. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN.
