God Hears Prayer

Today’s Reading: Psalm 65

Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. You who answer prayer, to you all people will come.

Psalm 65:1

Reflection: The glorious things that God has done throughout the earth are reminders of His Power and Authority. In His psalm, King David is overwhelmed with praise when reflecting on the God Who controls the world. God’s Hand is seen in the natural wonders that have been formed and in the way they are controlled moment by moment: the rising and setting of the sun, the vastness of the mountains and hills, the majestic ebb and flow of the oceans, and the marvel of the yearly harvest. All these things prove God’s Glory. What a wonder it is, David ponders, that this same God is the One to Whom he can uplift prayer. This Sovereign God Who controls the heavens and the earth is the same One Who hears and answers the prayers of people.

Isn’t it an amazing thing, that limited people have an audience with the Infinite God! We can come to God in prayer because of Who He is. We can rightly praise God for His character and attributes: His Holiness, Righteousness, Power, Compassion, and Love. We can lift up our confessions to Him in confidence and earnest because He bore the burden of sin which once overwhelmed us and forgives us of our transgressions. We can thank Him for His continuous earthly provision and precious heavenly blessing, which are given freely and abundantly. We can share our concerns and cares with Him because He hears and answers prayer.

All that God is and all that He has done assure us that we can trust in Him now and onward. We can depend on God for all things because we know what He has already done for us.

Prayer: Almighty God, to Whom shall I go? Only You have the words of everlasting life. I praise You and thank You that You provide my every need. You give me much more than I deserve from You. In my uncertainty Lord, in my doubt, remind me of Your Presence with me. May the recollection of Your Power and Love continually encourage me to trust in You in all situations. I pray this prayer in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
