“This is the One I told you about: ‘After me comes a man who has surpassed me, because He existed before me.'”
Reflection: Every believer has a testimony, a story about how they came to see and know the Savior for Who He is. Seeing the Savior for Who He is shows us who we are in relationship to Him. Knowing and learning about the Savior ensures that we recognize His Presence when we see Him in our midst.
When Jews from Jerusalem hear about John baptizing people in the Jordan, they want to know if he is the promised Messiah. So they send priests and Levites to see him. John declares to them that he is not the Messiah, but merely the voice crying out in the wilderness to prepare people for the Messiah’s coming. He tells the Jews that he has been sent by God to announce the Messiah’s coming and help people to see Him. John’s understanding of the Messiah affects his perspective of himself. John knows he is not worthy to untie the Messiah’s sandal straps. He is a nobody compared to the greatness and glory of the Messiah. When he finally sees Jesus, he is shown by God that he is in the Presence of the One he has been announcing to others. “I have seen and testified that He is the Son of God,” he says!
-Knowing God helps us to know about ourselves. Think about one great thing about God. How do you compare with this character of God? What does this teach you about yourself? What does this reveal about your relationship with God?
-When we are committed to God, we are led to recognize how He is working around us. What is an experience you have of God working in your life or in the lives of others?
Prayer: Almighty God, no one can compare with Your Might and Power, with Your Grace and Love. I praise You, for there truly is no one like You. Thank You for revealing to me the Truth of Your beloved Son, and for changing my life by the Truth of You Salvation. Help me to live with the knowledge of Yourself always. I pray these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
