Focusing on God

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 43:1-5

The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when he came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown.

Ezekiel 43:3

Reflection: In his vision, Ezekiel sees the grand Temple of the Lord God. He documents its description in great detail, so that it can be preserved forever. It is splendid in size and design, and is quite a sight to behold until Ezekiel witnesses the Glory of God entering into it. This God is the One Whose Voice sounds like the roar or rushing water, and Whose Glory illumines the land. He is the One Who brings cities and nations to destruction. At the sight of the Lord in His Glory, Ezekiel falls facedown. This Holy God chooses to make His home in a building which is miniscule in comparison to His Created Universe, to all of heaven and earth which belong to Him. The Glory of God brings to mind that the Temple is a mere building with no purpose without the Ancient of Days. How glorious is it to think that humans would build something suitable enough to house the Eternal God!

By first bringing our attention to God, all else around us falls into proper perspective. By focusing on Him, we see all other things clearly. Holding our attention to God’s Greatness put into its proper place the work of our own feeble hands. Concentrating on His mighty works reminds us of our need for Him.

Prayer: Loving God, nothing can compare to Your Glory. No one can match Your Greatness. You are the Almighty God of heaven and earth, and I give You all praise. Thank You for the reminder of Yourself which draws me to You and keeps me seeing all things around me with the proper perspective to live a life of faith. Where would I be without You? Please help me, Lord, to remember You as I go about my day today. Remind me of Your Goodness, fill me with Your Love, make known to me Your Presence. I long to be near to You. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
