An Eternal Perspective

Today’s Reading: Psalm 90

Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, You are God.

Psalm 90:2

Reflection: The LORD is eternal. Just try to imagine the entire span of eternity to eternity. Imagine the scope of forever, which is how long our God has existed. Imagine all that God has seen and done besides that which we already know about. Long before the mountain ranges were born, He created the earth. Time looks much different to the LORD. In His Eyes, a thousand years are like a day. In His Eyes, our lives are like the grass that in the morning and withers in the evening. He has lived each moment with us, and yet has seen so much more from His omniscient perspective.

Our lives are best lived as we consult the only One Who has an eternal mindset. Too often we as humans get so caught up in temporal tasks and day-to-day commitments that our eternal affairs lose priority. This is why we need the wisdom and understanding of our Eternal God. He is the One Who sees and knows the entire universe and orchestrates it without slumbering or sleeping. He is the only One Who has seen generations and generations of people who have refused to trust Him along with generations and generations of people who have sought Him first in all things. When we seek to live with an eternal perspective, to trust His eternal viewpoint, the eternal concerns – our spiritual growth and nourishment, our dependence on the LORD, our life into eternity – begin to supersede all that will one day fade away.

Uncertain how to tackle the present worries of this world? Seek God’s perspective and trust in it. If we address all that is around us only by what we know and see, we will fail miserably. But there is a gift in that the Eternal God helps us manage through what will one day be no more in order that we would enjoy all His blessings eternal.

Prayer: Rock of Ages, You alone are the Eternal God. Before all that we see around us was created, You were there. Thank You for seeing and knowing far more than we do, and thank You that we can trust in You to understand how we can live in a way that honors You. I pray that You would help me to see my life from an eternal perspective. Please grant me Your Wisdom to do Your Will. And when I can’t see what You’re up to, LORD please help me to trust Your guidance toward all the decisions I make to give You glory. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
